To establish and design a garden off campus where students can learn how to grow fruit and vegetables and flowers. The produce will be given to students and staff of the university. The gardener will be responsible for maintenance of the garden and the on campus beds and polytunnel nursery. They will be responsible in producing a monthly report of activity and in producing a photographic or videograpic diary of the progress of the site and the involvement of students for the project.
Eco Abertay piloted a project funded by the Climate Challenge Fund in 2016. We were able to try lots of alternative approaches to tackling students behaviours to climate change and their impact on the planet. There was success in our bike stop, where students can bring their bike to get serviced or fixed for free; we handed out over 1000 water bottles in an attempt to reduce single use plastic bottles on campus; we provided starter packs for students moving into halls/accommodation on arrival.
All of these projects and more will develop and enhance the student experience and behaviour towards re-use and recycle.
