I’m Caledonia, and I’d be a great student association vice president because I’m passionately committed to intersectional diversity, I love Abertay and want all students to have as fantastic a time here as I’ve had, and I constantly push for more sustainability initiatives.
Intersectional Diversity
I’m physically disabled and neurodivergent, and I’m the disabled students community rep, so I know some of the difficulties I’ve faced and other students that I’ve helped have faced. I’m also a first gen (my parents don’t have degrees) student from a low socioeconomic background, a single parent, a mature student, and I’m transgender, so I’ve been through a lot, and a lot of it is the same things some of you are maybe going through now. As vice president, I promise to:
- Explore, encourage, and help enact more and better diversity policies built around intersectionality and our student communities
- Help make the university and the student association more inclusive
- And listen to what you have to say about what you want
I love Abertay
I came to university shortly after realising I’m trans, and I’ve found the staff and other students to be hugely supportive. It’s the first place I’ve got to be really me. I’ve had a fantastic time studying here, and I want everyone else to have as wonderful a time as I’ve had.
To achieve this, I aim to
- Encourage new societies and promote the ones we have – making new friends is one of the best parts of university
- Organise fantastic events – I’m an events management student, and I’ve already organised several events. I love doing this and I’m really good at it
- Promote and celebrate the achievements of students through our social media and events
Sustainability
I think Abertay is already doing really well on sustainability initiatives for a small university, and I know there are things already planned that will be happening in the future. I would like to see the Student Association and our Societies become more sustainable. I aim to
- Have the Society Awards include one for sustainability
- Work with university staff and students to further develop existing Sustainability initiatives
- Ensure all events I organise are sustainable
