Society Council šŸ™Œ

Society Council is a monthly meeting where matters affecting societies are discussed. It is usually attended by Society Presidents, the Student Vice President, and a staff member of the Studentsā€™ Association. Typically, it is in the early evening and lasts up to an hour.

Topics Raised

The topics raised generally focus on topics affecting many societies. These include new society approvals, opinions on changes or new campaigns, and issues societies face. A wide range of guests tend to attend the meetings, these have included the Head of Estates asking for opinions on society spaces, the University Secretary, and our website developer asking about opinions on the new website.

Raising Topics

The president (or otherwise nominated committee member) should be emailed a call for agenda items two weeks prior to the meeting (if not email societies@abertay.ac.uk). Topics that you think would be relevant to all societies can be added to the agenda by replying to the email. If you do not have time, you can raise them at the end of the meeting under any other business (AOB).

Relevant topics include:

  • Ideas for collaboration on events.

  • Issues or ideas relating to procedures or processes.

  • Relevant opportunities for others.

  • Opinions on ongoing consultations.

For topics affecting your society only (e.g., you need assistance organising an event) and you think others would not benefit from knowing this, please email societies@abertay.ac.uk instead.

Note On Attendance

To make the meeting productive and beneficial to all, we ask every society committee nominates one member to attend. If you are this person and cannot make it, please decline the meeting request, tell someone who is attending, or email societies@abertay.ac.uk
