What made you choose to join the Abertay University Law Society?

I chose to join the Abertay University Law Society because I knew I wanted to be more involved with an extracurricular from the very beginning of my university career. I came to university by myself and I thought it would be a great way to make friends. I have established some of my dearest friends by joining the AULS committee – we are truly like a family and we are looking forward to welcoming more people!

What made you pursue a career in law?

I have always wanted to work in an established field, where I will have security and a good daily routine. For the longest time, I decided that being an administrative assistant was the way to go, until I realised I didn’t want to be stuck in the same daily cycle! I realised that I was more the type of person who is fulfilled by challenge and a sense of accomplishment. I then knew I wanted a career which would help people – but I didn’t want to work with children, sick people or animals because I’m way too emotional. I knew that working in the legal industry was incredibly rewarding, had the security I craved and wouldn’t be too much on my emotional state – as long as I don’t choose to work in criminal law! After doing a lot of research, I actually found myself incredibly interested in all of the ins and outs of the law, our constitution and our history within the UK. There was so much more to it than just an established career – it was interesting too!

What areas of law are you most interested in or passionate about?

I’m definitely passionate about human rights and I find public law extremely interesting. I would definitely enjoy a career in this area however I do see myself working in real estate too! Two very distinct areas, but I’m still finding my feet and exploring all of the areas of law. So far, I don’t particularly dislike any area of law.

How has being a member of the Abertay University Law Society enhanced your academic and professional journey in the field of law?

The number one thing I would say that AULS has done for me is allow me to network with a variety of different people, whether they be solicitors, solicitor-advocates, paralegals, academics, professors and so on! This has allowed me to get my name out there and learn a lot of things that you don’t get taught in theory!
