What made you choose to join the society?

Film society is a society I actually helped to start. I really wanted there to be a space where I can watch and talk about films as it’s something I am passionate about. I am trying to expand my film knowledge and also recommend films I like to others who also like film so I believe film society would be a good place to do this.

What’s your favourite film genre, and can you recommend a must-watch film from it?

This is so incredibly difficult! I absolutely love a good thriller film with my favourite being Jordan Peele’s 2017 Masterpiece ‘Get Out’. It is definitely a common top pick within the genre however every time I watch it I end up finding something different that I hadn’t noticed before. On the other hand I absolutely love a good comedy and for that I would say my favourite is Emma Seligman’s 2023 film ‘Bottoms’, It has made me laugh every time I have seen it and I have showed it to so many different friends that I have seen the film maybe 5-6 times now.

If you could have dinner with any director or actor/actress, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I would probably choose Henry Selick as he directed my favourite film ever – Coraline. He also directed the wonderful film ‘Wendell and Wilde’. I would love to talk to him about all the hidden things he included in Coraline and the overall process of creating it. I’d also talk to him about ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ as he never gets credited for that even though he directed it and I would be interested in knowing more about that.

What’s a film you love that you think is underrated or doesn’t get enough attention?

I feel like while it may not be that underrated overall, ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’ is not often mentioned when talking about Wes Anderson’s films which is a shame as I believe it is his best. I absolutely love the story it tells of this complex family and the bittersweet themes and relationships between them all.

What’s the first film you remember watching, and how did it impact you?

Disney’s Animated film Cinderella is the first film I remember watching. Honestly the messages in the film itself are quite traditional and not great, however I do remember loving how the film looked, which probably made me watch more animated films as animation is one of my favourite film mediums.

What's your favourite board game or video game, and what makes it so enjoyable for you?

My favourite video game is ‘The Sims 2’. I think it has the most heart and charm out of any of The Sims franchise and I also think it has better gameplay. I love to create complex relationship dynamics in game and start drama and in The Sims 2 the sims in the game already come with their own drama that is so fun to play with.

If you could have a dinner party with any three celebrities, who would you invite and why?

Kyle MacLachlan – I think he is so funny in interviews and how he posts online, I feel like he is someone I would have a laugh with.

Charli XCX – I love her music and I just like how chill and fun she seems, I also think she would get along with Kyle as he posts about being a fan of her music.

Emma Seligman – Another director I really love and someone I know has worked with Charli XCX before and maybe in this hypothetical dinner I could convince her to have kyle MacLachlan in a film as well.

Overall, I think the vibes would be fun this dinner.
