University is a time when you may (or may not) have sex, and here at the SA we want to make sure that you have the information to make decisions about contraception, and where you can go for further advice and information.
Condoms are a popular form of contraception because they protect you against sexually transmitted diseases. You can get free condoms, Femidoms and lubricant from the SA office. No need to ask for them, you can come in and help yourself.
There are many other forms of contraception, including the contraceptive pill, the copper or hormonal coil, injection and implant. If you want more information on these we can provide leaflets and advice, or for more detailed information you can contact your GP or sexual health clinic. These forms of contraception won’t prevent you from contracting an STI, so it’s important to use a condom for protection.

At times, although rare, a condom can split. If this happens, you may wish to consider emergency contraceptive which is available for free from pharmacies, your local GP, sexual health clinic at Ninewells Hospital and The Corner (under 19yrs). The emergency contraceptive pill is not an alternative to other planned methods of contraception.

If you think you might be pregnant it is important to get it confirmed as early as possible. Pregnancy testing kits are available to buy from most chemists that allow you to test at home. It is important to talk to someone about it, whether that someone is a friend or family member or one of the people from around campus who can listen.
The SA Advice Coordinator would be more than happy to listen to your concerns. If, however, you want to get further information and details on the choices available to you then perhaps you would like to contact the family planning clinic.
