"As a child, I considered such unknowns sinister. Now, though, I understand they bear no ill will. The universe is, and we are." - Solanum, Outer Wilds
I'm Lou, a 3rd year student in Games Design and Production. I may have given you a free coffee from the Relax Trolley before :)
But that's not the only way I've helped to improve your experience at Abertay. I've spent the last three years as class rep, pushing feedback to where it matters most. Now, having been elected both department rep and association trustee, I'm ready to use that experience to influence decisions at the core of the university - driven by your voice.
My most important goal is simple: I want students to be heard. Your voice matters, and I want to do my best to ensure that it is respected and acted upon - not just acknowledged.
Student Voice Forums aren't delivering. I'll work directly with students and the university to find a better solution, focusing on realising the full potential of class reps and Unitu. Every opinion deserves to be heard.
I'll assess push for online learning that is accessible and intuitive - lecture transcriptions, standardised MLS structures, and effective use of communication channels. Abertay is known for its exceptional teaching quality, and this shouldn't stop off-campus.
I will continue to support free events such as AberTaysty, and build stronger ties with local charities to help get real support directly to those who need it most.
NHS mental healthcare is stretched thin. I'll push the university to expand their counselling team and ensure timely access to care pathways. I'll also advocate with national campaigns for better public mental healthcare.
The ABE modules are unengaging and ineffective. As the university phases them out, I'll make sure students have a real say in what replaces them - focusing on real usefulness, and not just checking boxes. I'll also make sure direct entrants and postgrads are fully included.
The AI boom is rapidly reshaping education and careers, but guidelines remain unclear. Concerns over privacy and ethics are paramount to us today - and I will push the university to develop transparent and practical guidelines that protect academic integrity without stifling learning.
I'm not running to be distant, I'm running to be approachable. And I'm keen to hear what you think right now!
Your experience matters. Your voice matters. Let's make Abertay work for all of us - starting with your vote.
Vote Lou!
