Abertay Students' Association held a referendum on the following question between Monday 14th April and Friday 18th April:

"Should Abertay Students' Association disaffiliate from the National Union of Students (NUS) UK?"

Why was this referendum held?

A motion was passed at the Student Representative Council on Wednesday 28th January 2026.

What were the results?

• YES: 32 votes (31.37%)
• NO: 69 votes (67.65%)
• ABSTAIN: 1 votes (0.99%)

The majority of votes were in favour of not disaffiliating from NUS UK. However, this referendum did not meet the required quorum of 5% of the student body (249 voters).
As such, Abertay Students' Association will not leave NUS UK.
